Chittor, was the capital of the rulers of Mewar from the eighth until the sixteenth century. The House of Mewar is the world's oldest ruling dynasty which now spans 76 generations and about 1500 years.
The name derives from the founder, King Chitrangad Maurya (Mori). The last ruler of the Maurya at Chittor was Raja Man Mori, an uncle pf Bapa Rawal, who is the real founder of the Kingdom of Mewar and the ancestor of all Maharanas of Mewar (today Udaipur). |

» Chittorgarh History |
Chittor, also called Chittaurgarh, is a place with such a unique history and situation that you will not find any comparable place in the world. The sentence of Barkemeier might astonish those, who have no knowledge about the history of Chittor and the Kingdom of Mewar. But those who know its history will also be struck with we while visiting this scared place. The fort of Chittor is situated on a 170 m high table hill, about 450 m above sea level, with deep declivities on all sides. The narrow hill has an extension from north to south almost 5 km and is very small from west to east. It measures 280 hect. |

Air : Chittorgarh does not have an airport of its own.
Road : The main bus stand is also on the western banks of Gambheri River. There is good bus service for Shekhawati, Bundi, Kota and Udaipur from Chittorgarh.
Rail : Chittorgarh railway station is located on the western banks of Gambheri River. It has rail links with Ahmedabad, Shekhawati, Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Delhi.
