Jaipur, the vibrant capital of Rajasthan, is popularly known as the ' Pink City ' because of the pink-coloured buildings in its old city. Jaipur the capital city of the northern Indian state of Rajasthan is one of the most vibrant and colorful cities of India. Famous for its colorful culture, forts, palaces, and lakes the city basks in the glory of a rich and eventful past.

» Jaipur History

Jaipur, popuarly known as the Pink City. Jaipur Owes its existence to Sawai Jai singh II whose vision and architectural acumen can be felt by a tourist every where in Jaipur. Jaipur, built in 1727 AD became the capital city of the state of Rajasthan. The earlier capital was at Amber which still stands high atop a hill.

The city has been divided into nine blocks of which two are kept for the City Palace Complex and other state buildings, whereas the other seven blocks were earmarked for the public. The city was encircled by the city wall, which opened at seven gates or darwazas. In 1728 maharaja jai Singh II built the remarkable observatory, which is still one of Jaipur's main attractions.

 
» How to Reach Jaipur
Air : Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur lie on the Airlines route Delhi and Mumbai.

Rail : Most of the Rajasthan is accessible by a network of rail services. Indian Railway reservation office opens from Monday to Saturday. There are several trains from Jaipur to Agra, Bombay, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Chittorgarh, Alwar, Shekhawati and Delhi. There is a Shatabdi Exp. between Jaipur and Delhi and continue to Alwar and Shekhawati.

Road : The state Roadways coaches link most tourist places and business centres in and around the state. Chauffer-driven air conditioned cars can be hired through the state tourist offices and other approved operators.
