Alwar was once an important Rajput state. It emerged in the 18 th century under Pratap Singh who pushed back the rulers of Jaipur. Situated almost a midway between Delhi and Jaipur. Alwar always figured prominently in the history of India. Archaeological findings from the regions indicate that during the ancient period the area was occupied by the Matsaya King.
